Meet the design team

(From Left to Right: David Gross(GF55), Fred Schwartz, Jack Travis)

An Introduction

In the Kalahari on 116th Street, Full Spectrum on NY, LLC, in partnership with L&M Equity Partners, have joined as FSLM to develop a mixed-use residential building that will reflect the same commitment to the preservation of the earth’s resources that the Kalahari’s San people have modeled for 50,000 years. The San people who inhabit the Kalahari have learned to live in harmony with nature and to prosper while conserving the resources of their fragile environment. In spite of a challenging and unforgiving ecological and political environments. The Kalahari will be a sustainable residential development that deploys the appropriate technologies and methodologies to assure that the development is timeless in its beauty, yet both energy efficient and resource efficient. At the same time, the Kalahari will provide the residents the highest level of comfort and reliability.

The Kalahari will be a residential, retail and community facility that will meet the United States Green Building Council(USGBC) Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) high-performance standards. Like 1400 on 5th this Green Project will demonstrate that housing may be affordable and at the same time energy efficient, resource efficient, environmentally friendly and smart. The Kalahari project will implement many of the award winning Green Building protocols deployed at 1400 5th Ave. In many ways the development team envisions the Kalahari as the sister building to 1400 on 5th. The project design will reflect the development team’s belief that life cycle and long-term energy costs are important yet often overlooked considerations for long-term affordability of affordable housing. The Kalahari will also meet the performance criteria required by the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) to receive grants to pay for performance upgrades of building systems.
